Transitions are the moves that children and young people make from stage to stage in their education, for example starting school, moving from one school to another, or leaving school. Transitions and changes are part of everyone's life. Most children and young people look forward to moving on, however, transitions can be challenging for all involved and support from parents and staff can help children to manage change in a positive way.
Talk with your child about what is going to happen
Answer your child's questions sensitively
Encourage your child to talk about any concerns they may have
Listen carefully to your child's concerns and consider sharing them with other relevant people
Help your child to become familiar with the new setting and staff by visiting as often as you can and/or attending the transition events which are held at the new setting
