Welcome
We are delighted to welcome your child into Primary One at our school. Starting school is a huge milestone for your child, and we endeavour to make the transition as smooth and supportive as possible. Below, you will find information which will hopefully answer some questions you may have about your child starting school. There is also a guide of suggested activities aimed at supporting your child’s readiness to start school in August, along with information about what they will need for Primary One. Please contact the school office directly with any queries you may have.
How will my child learn in P1?
In Scotland, we have the benefit of curriculum guidance which spans both nursery and the early stages of primary school. Curriculum for Excellence ‘early level’ is intended to support the implementation of a responsive, continuous play-based curriculum for children aged three to six.
At Hatton, we will be ensuring that our learning and teaching is developmentally appropriate, and research led. Play will continue to be the main vehicle for learning in the early stages of school. We are looking forward to sharing how we are developing play and learning over the year. You can view our Play Policy here: Draft Play Policy
Can I volunteer in school?
We love to have volunteers in school to help support pupils with their learning, or with school events. If you feel you would like to volunteer in school, please do get in touch with us, along with informing us of any days and times which are most suitable for yourself. If we require volunteers, we will be in touch with you. Thank you in advance!
